I am a second time mom who just had a successful unmedicated VBAC and having Emily’s support had a huge, if not the biggest, impact on my positive birth outcome.
I had a lot of anxiety surrounding the birth and what to expect and Emily listened, provided guidance, reassurance and resources and held the space for me when I felt like I had run out of strength. I had requested a faith-based approach and having her pray over me and remind me of scripture before and during labour was more than reassuring.
I went past my due date and she checked in consistently to make sure I was holding up and staying strong and patient. She was available and always helpful when I needed to talk and our meetings and phone calls never felt rushed or impersonal. I felt like she took time to understand my birth plan and held me to that, without ever being pushy, when I was too tired and scared to remember what I wanted in the first place. Her presence during labour was very calming for me and my partner and she provided very helpful suggestions on different positions to keep me comfortable and progressing.
Having not had a doula for my first birth experience, I can confidently say that I had holistic support this time round with her looking out for my mental, emotional and physical wellbeing pre and postpartum. It made the world of a difference and I am coming out of this birth experience with only positive feelings. My partner and I truly felt supported and encouraged by Emily - she went above and beyond what we expected from a doula. She made me feel heard and seen. My family and I are eternally grateful for her wisdom, expertise and dedication that made having our baby such a beautiful experience.
